Spring training is well underway and it has been an adjustment. I had really gotten used to running every other day when I was just messing around with my training, so running consecutive days this week felt CRAZY. Day one I felt amazing and ran a few seconds slower than the 5K I did at the beginning of May. Day two I was absolutely sluggish...my legs were tight and felt heavy. Day three was somewhere between the previous days. I was pretty happy to enjoy a rest day followed by a day with just a long walk. Hopefully it'll be a little easier to swallow the three days in a row next week!
I've also been trying to take my nutrition more seriously. I have had a love affair with eating junk. My mindset has always been work out hard, eat what you want. While this shouldn't be a problem with moderation, I must admit as I've moved away from my parents and college cafeteria food, I haven't done well with my food choices. There has been too much fast food, junk food, soda, and sweets. In the beginning of May I did begin to make better choices when eating out (grilled items and salads instead of fried things). I've tried incorporating more veggies into my world and using more fruit and yogurt to satisfy my sweet tooth. Sweets are still my weakness, but I did make a good find this week--Larabars. I picked up a variety pack this week with apple pie, cherry pie, and cashew cookie flavors. I LOVE them and I feel a lot better snacking on them instead of the yummy cream filled cupcakes from the vending machine at work.
